ACC President Highlights AI’s Role in Strengthening Global Asset Recovery Efforts at UN Expert Meeting

The President of the Maldives Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Uz. Adam Shamil, has called for a tech-driven overhaul of international asset recovery efforts, emphasizing the critical role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in tracking down stolen funds.

Uz. Shamil delivered his remarks via a video message on Monday at a high-level United Nations expert meeting organized by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). The session focused on enhancing global cooperation to repatriate illicit funds and utilize them for sustainable development and human rights.

In his address, the ACC President stressed that traditional methods are no longer sufficient to combat sophisticated cross-border financial crimes. He urged global authorities to embrace cutting-edge technologies to level the playing field.

The ACC’s high-profile participation in the UN forum aligns with its statutory mandates under Section 21 (P) and (Q) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, which obligates the agency to foster international partnerships and cooperation in the fight against corruption.
