The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), today commenced the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) Consultation Workshop, bringing together key national stakeholders to review and strengthen the draft National Anti-Corruption Strategy and its Action Plan.

The three-day consultation workshop, held from 20–22 July 2026 at the Anti-Corruption Commission, is designed to facilitate an inclusive dialogue among government institutions, oversight bodies, the private sector, civil society organizations and development partners to shape a comprehensive national framework for preventing corruption and strengthening integrity.

The opening session was attended by representatives of key institutions, including the President’s Office, the People's Majlis, the judiciary, and other oversight agencies.

The first day of the workshop focuses on the strategic direction of the NACS, including discussions on the draft vision, guiding principles, strategic objectives and the structure of the Action Plan. Participants will also review priority areas, institutional responsibilities and implementation approaches.

The second day will focus on wider government engagement, with participating institutions reviewing sector-specific actions, coordination mechanisms and their roles in implementing the Strategy. Discussions will cover key themes including integrity in public administration, public procurement, State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), public financial management, enforcement and institutional coordination.

The final day will provide a platform for business and civil society representatives to share perspectives on strengthening private sector integrity, public participation, social accountability and community engagement in preventing corruption.

The development of the NACS follows a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach, recognizing that preventing corruption requires collaboration among public institutions, the private sector, civil society and citizens.

Throughout the workshop, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) will provide technical guidance and facilitate discussions by sharing international best practices, global experiences and practical approaches to support the development of a National Anti-Corruption Strategy that aligns with international standards while addressing the Maldives' national priorities.

Through this consultation process, stakeholder feedback and recommendations will help refine the draft National Anti-Corruption Strategy and its Action Plan, ensuring that the final framework is practical, inclusive and responsive to national needs.
